When grilling salmon, put the salmon on the grill skin side up (edible flesh side down) while the grill is heating up. I usually put the salmon on when the grill is about halfway heated up. Pretty much a guess. Grill it to your desired doneness, about 4-5 minutes for an average sized piece of salmon.
Flip the salmon over so it’s skin side down to finish cooking, about another 4-5 minutes.
I cook it this way for two reasons.. The first is the edible flesh side of the salmon goes on first while the grill is heating up to help prevent it sticking to the grill and falling apart. The other reason is the skin comes off easier when you finish it skin side down.
